OKAY so after traipsing through Deviantart for hours, I've decided that all of the awesome Vista themes are either broken or played out, or they just plain suck/barely look any different. WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO THE SKINNING COMMUNITY?

Deedit: Also I remember what my issues with Fuji were/are now. If I have a restored window open over the desktop then it's hard to tell if it's focused or not, and I usually use the taskbar to minimise. If it's unfocused then it means a whole lot of unnecessary taskbar clicking. Also, I prefer caption buttons with outlines.

yeah I was gonna say, I don't keep up with you kids and your OS shenanigans, but I gather nobody's given much of a shit about Vista since 7 came out
I am standing behind my nose.

I just made my taskbar and all my window borders clear. I can see what's going on in the background. iTunes, winamp, downloads, etc. Very useful.

Yeah, but even then I've only ever seen three or four skins which I would use, and those wouldn't even be permanently. It would be nice if Imrik and co. could churn out another Area04 skin with fancy effects and shit, but the only thing like that is GAIA 09 which is broken.

Damn it I'm going to get 7 soon and then I'll probably never need another skin again because 7's Aero and entire interface frankly rules. It's pretty much perfect. Or maybe I should just invest my freedom in KDE instead.

So moat I have a question: have you ever tried to run Blackbox on Vista? Or anybody else for that matter? I tried it a while ago but it seemed to completely fuck with Vista's startup time. The thing itself seemed to run reasonably well, but I never got past the barebones of BBLean because I got rid of it almost instantly.

Disable unnecessary startup services.

I meant in comparison to using Explorer on its own, but I can't be bothered all that much because I want to get Windows 7 soon. I'll just buy it unless somebody here can tell me exactly how to pirate a self-updating version.

Also that GAIA skin worked. moob, search for "GAIA 09" in Vista styles; it rocks.

I had stuff like that, but I got rid of it seeing it's all just shiny internet doodads and gadgets, most of which I hardly use.

Man, I would Samurize it up but there's that one drive info Sidebar gadget which I can't do without. At the moment I have Sidebar set to always on top, so I can easily click on a drive icon to access a drive. Otherwise I can just win&space and then click. It's surprisingly convenient, and I don't think that I can mimic that functionality with Samurize.

I use all of that stuff. The network info when downloading/uploading, RSS feeds are a god send, overall weather today, my winamp plugin because my keyboard is tied to media player, calender, cpu when playing windowed games, and a clock I can see from my bed.
The only actual clock I have in my room is the one on my bed that lies next to my head when I sleep. Can't see it during the day.

I know what you mean. As soon as I stop being afraid to upgrade to pirated 7, I'll probably never need a dockbar again.

By the way, how much does 7 rock and does it rock enough to warrant a clean install over Vista without a second thought?

Yeah. Initially I was worried that the install might fuck up and/or somehow I'd manage to brick my hard disk, but now I'm more concerned that I'll forget to transfer something from Vista, or later realise that I should've transferred something from Vista. I'm spending a while to make sure that I'm not going to miss anything.
